Nerve Sparing

Today with a lot of experience and a lot of skill it is possible to preserve both neurovascular bundles, the nerve supply to the penis, in most men depending on the extent of the cancer.

With improved surgical techniques and the availability of Viagra like tablets, most men less than 65 years of age are potent following surgery. Nerve sparing can be performed by the open technique or by robotic surgery.

It is important to note that, as with all medical and surgical treatments, there are side effects associated with the treatment of prostate cancer. Cancer recurrence, incontinence and impotence are the things that I strive to avoid but can occur in some patients.
