Prof Stricker now has perfected the technique of MR-ultrasound fusion biopsies using the safe transperineal technique but using the technology of MRI’s for accurate localisation. Using the Biojet system, Prof Stricker has perfected he technique of MR-ultrasound fusion biopsies, having now performed over 100.
He confirmed that the MRI allows for accurate localisation. The procedure is performed using the transperineal technique thus affords an excellent level of safety. Alternatives include an MR-guided biopsy within the MRI machine. This relies on biopsy through the rectum and it’s attendant infection risk. For selected cases there is also the In-Gantry option. Prof Stricker’s preference is for the MR-ultrasound fusion technology because of its safety.
